Education

R. Gail Goodman is a graduate of York University (B.A. 1979) and Osgoode Hall law School (LL.B. 1982). She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984.

Professional Experience

Ms. Goodman joined Papazian Heisey Myers as a partner in June of 2002. Prior to that she practiced at a large Toronto firm and also worked as in-house counsel for a major Canadian life insurer. In this capacity she was responsible for all the company’s litigation across the country as well as for managing the litigation department.

Areas of Practice

Ms. Goodman specializes in litigation with an emphasis on insurance defence, benefits, commercial and corporate disputes, employment and labour related litigation and human rights law. She has had considerable litigation experience before the Ontario Courts and as counsel in many successful mediations.

Activities & Memberships

Ms. Goodman is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Advocates Society and the Defense Research Institute. She is a past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Insurance Law Section and currently sits on the executive of the Canadian Bar Association, Insurance Section. She is a former member of the Canadian Life and Health Insurers Association, serving on its executive and human rights committees. Ms. Goodman is a frequent speaker at the Ontario and Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Life and Health Insurers Association, the Canadian Institute and has given numerous seminars for clients on a variety of litigation and insurance related topics. Ms. Goodman’s articles on insurance law and litigation have been published in Canada as well as in the United States.
